Children's Discovery Museum (CDM) is aware that families of children with autism often avoid museums and other busy social environments because their children find the crowds and noise overwhelming, causing them to become upset and act out. With a Museum-wide goal of being an inclusive, welcoming place for all families, CDM strives to understand better how we can support families affected by autism by ensuring that we offer well-informed resources, programs, exhibits and environments while also educating staff and visitors about the autism spectrum.

Guided by our Autism Advisory Group (which consists of parents of children with autism and autism professionals from a variety of organizations**), CDM has developed staff training, an evening event called Play Your Way, and online resources, including short and long versions of a visit story and tips for visiting CDM.
