Soundscapes: Orchestrate the Extraordinary
Opens December 21st
In Soundscapes: Orchestrate the Extraordinary, everyday objects and materials are morphed into musical experiences. Stairs that sing, timber that twangs, and pipes that peal -- you are the conductor in this symphony of found sounds.
The Museum staircase was once just a way to get from the first to the second floor and back down again. Now, the restyled Soundstair: San Jose, an installation by contemporary artist Christopher Janney, will add music to each step, creating a tune as you travel between floors.
A giant playable guitar bench and other unique sound implements await you as you venture into Musicians at Work, an engaging exhibit installation by artist Joe Saxe. Use your hands or simple tools to activate sounds from everyday construction materials transformed into playable structures and surfaces.
Sound experiences can be found at every turn in the Museum; check out the calendar for upcoming special activities and performances. The music fades away February 9, 2014, so plan your visit soon.
