Program Specialist Supervisor

Summary:
This supervisory position monitors the daily operations of the Museum to maintain high quality program delivery and visitor service in support of the Museum’s mission and to ensure safety for all visitors. The ideal candidate enjoys a fast-paced work environment with a healthy dose of multi-tasking and problem-solving.

Responsibilities:
This is a highly visible position, especially with external communities. Responsible for achieving goals and results. Has some influence on strategy, but focuses primarily on project and/or program execution. Expectations and experience are described below:

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Program Specialist staff. Provide ongoing coaching in facilitation techniques, educational theory, visitor services, & experiential educational philosophy;
  • Work with Exhibit Specialist Supervisor and Volunteer & Program Staff Supervisor to monitor daily operations to ensure safety and maintain high quality programming and customer service on the Museum floor;
  • Create the program staff schedules, both daily and seasonal;
  • Collaborate with Education Department staff in designing and delivering program staff training to promote exhibit interactions, provide educational programs and maintain customer service;
  • Coordinate program development for core program areas in coordination with Education and Exhibits Departments staff;
  • Work with Materials Coordinator to order and prepare materials for programs;
  • Works a Sunday through Thursday schedule; and
  • Perform other departmental duties as required.

Education/Experience:
Any combination of education or experience providing the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. Minimum employment standards are:

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in Education or related field;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment;
  • Self-directed with good, independent judgment for managing new situations;
  • Experience in mentoring, training and supervision of adult learners of diverse backgrounds preferred; and
  • Bilingual preferred.
