Common Ground Program Gives Voice to Immigrants

Immigrants from China, Mexico, India, the Philippines, and Vietnam shared their experiences and cultural heritage during one of three dinners as part of the museum's innovative Common Ground gatherings. The year-long, grant-funded program designed to connect people from different backgrounds and encourage sharing and understanding amongst diverse immigrant communities will culminate in an art project to be displayed throughout the South Bay. Sesame Street Legend Sonia Manzano Wowed Legacy Crowd

More than $1.3 million was raised for the museum's educational hands-on exhibits and programs at the annual Legacy for Children Award gala. Sonia Manzano, the evening's honoree better known as Maria for 44 years on Sesame Street, wowed the crowd of more than 750 museum supporters, and local rock band Smash Mouth got revelers dancing to a string of hits. Civil Rights Icon Receives Legacy Award

Civil Rights icon Ruby Bridges better known by school children as their anti-bullying hero received the Legacy for Children Award 2016. Bridges was one of the first black children to integrate an all-white school in New Orleans in 1960. Her book, "Through My Eyes" is widely read in schools across the country for its anti-bullying message that resonates with youth. Learn More
