Supervisor: Program Specialist Supervisor
Status: Part-time/Full-time 30-40hr (5 days/week)
Rate: $15/hour
Summary Description:
Under the general supervision of the Program Specialist Supervisor, the Lead Specialist contributes to Museum visitor services by supporting exhibit and program spaces, helping maintain materials, assisting staff with guest feedback/concerns, creating daily scheduling, and supporting program and exhibit developers in maintaining the Museum floor for positive visitor experiences. The Lead Specialists are trained for each of the program/exhibit spaces and can fill in when needed in those spaces. One of the primary roles for the Lead Specialist is to provide training for new floor specialists in the details of preparation, maintenance, and facilitation of visitor experiences. The Leads will also be trained in any special programming including tech, theater programming, Wonder Cabinet programming, Bill’s Backyard facilitation/programming and any others that may be developed in the future.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Daily Schedule
- Create daily schedules
- Change daily schedule based on call outs
- Training
- Train new staff in daily procedures, radio protocol, visitor services approach
- Train new/current staff in special programming
- Receive training in all special programming (story time, crawl space, music time, theater programming, tech, Bill’s Backyard and Discovery Apron)
- Fill in for Staff
- In the case of staff call outs, the lead will fill in or give breaks/lunches
- Staff Support
- Help to support program and exhibit spaces on busy days; especially for school groups/special events/holidays
- Help monitor, prepare and replenish materials
- Give staff breaks when needed
- Help staff with customer service techniques
- Crowd Control
- Customer Service modelling/assistance
- Promoting positive interactions
- Monitoring and controlling busy areas
- Program and Exhibit Developer Support
- Assist in maintenance of spaces
- Assist in changing out projects and materials
- Assist with developing of new activities/programming
- Assist with initial training/ongoing training
• Safety and Visitor Service Support
Requirements: (applicant must have the following to be considered)
- At least (1) year experience working as an Exhibit Specialist or Program Specialist at Children’s Discovery Museum
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 18 years of age or older
- Strong Customer Service Skills
- Excellent Time Management Skills
- Good Problem Solving Skills
- Proficiency in working in team setting
- Ability to convey museum mission, and vision to staff and museum guests
Qualifications: (The following are desired but not mandatory)
- Cross Trained as Exhibit Specialist and Program Specialist
- Story time, Musical Rhyme & Song Time, Baby Rhyme Time, Greeter, Tech Trained
- Proficiency working with Excel, Word, Outlook
- Some College Preferred
- Bilingual Preferred
