Summer of Service (SOS) is a summer program for middle and high school aged youth, designed to give them fun experiences engaging in real community service work. Youth enroll for one-week sessions and choose one of five service themes: Environment and Ecology; Early Childhood Education; Media Activism; Leadership, and Community Outreach. Participants are split up into teams of 10-12 youth and are led by two team leaders and a high school intern. Each team works together to either plant trees, clean parks, plan hands-on activities for preschoolers, work behind the scenes in the Museum, complete digital media projects, and work with seniors. At the end of each week is Friday Fun Day, which feature excursions to local Bay Area attractions.
Full-time, non-exempt, temporary position; Monday-Friday, June 17 to August 7th. Assistant Team Leaders will assist Team Leaders in all activities: traveling to service sites, helping and encouraging young teens to do their work, playing games, and representing the Museum. Assistant Team Leaders should be responsible, resourceful, playful, passionate about service-learning, and enjoy working with middle school youth. Assistant Team Leaders must have completed their junior year in high school and have a strong interest in education, community service, and working with young people.
