Discovery Youth Media
Grades 5 & 6:Tuesdays 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.
Grades 7, 8, & 9: Thursdays 4:00 – 6:30 p.m.
Explore artistic and technical techniques of photography and film production.Through the use of digital cameras and Adobe Software programs, participants will create high quality photographs and movies and will have the opportunity to publicly showcase their work through Open Houses at the end of each session. Through using social media, like the DY getchy.wordpress.com website, participants will have the opportunity to impact their community on a global scale. With technology and media constantly evolving, we plan to engage participants to use these fun tools in a meaningful and productive way.
Discovery Youth Science
Grades 7,8, & 9: Wednesdays 4:00 – 6:30 p.m.
Learn about the environment, and use media as a form of presentation for documentation and research understanding, in addition to photographic processes. We conduct experiments and hands on science-based activities such as water quality testing, spot monitoring, and creating media rich environmental study maps. Participants will also create PSA’s and documentaries exploring topics of interest to be presented publicly and online.
Grades 10, 11,& 12 Planning Day: Fridays 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Grades 10, 11,& 12 Volunteer Day: Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Participate in exciting leadership opportunities and be educated in creating and leading wonderful programs for youth volunteers and our museum guests. The leaders will help plan and facilitate activities for Saturdays at the museum under the supervision of Youth Programs Staff. Many members of our Leadership Group are former participants of Discovery Youth, but anyone is welcome to join!
Grades 5 through 12: Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Volunteer at Children’s Discovery Museum, interfacing with visitors and facilitating arts and crafts, science, and performing arts activities. Participants may also work behind the scenes researching and collecting data, and documenting the projects and happenings of daily activities. Participants will also take part in team building and reflection activities.
